Club and Cercle Brugge will face each other on Sunday. Thibo Somers is already hoping for a fiery derby.
In February, Thibo Somers scored the equalizer for Cercle against Club Brugge, fifteen minutes before the end. That led to some impressive scenes for himself, despite the fact that it was only a 2-2 draw.
“After the match I said to my girlfriend: I scored in a Bruges derby, my career is already a success,” Somers tells Het Nieuwsblad. “When I saw the ball fly into the net, I didn’t believe it at first. Instant goosebumps. I looked up and saw the whole family cheering.”
Cercle has great faith that the derby can be won, especially given the situation at Club at the moment. And then there may be a ‘dirty’ statement. ‘E vuultje’ as they say in West Flanders.
“We have to hope that Thursday’s match is still in the legs at Club. There will be pressure for them anyway. So we have to grab them by the throat from minute one and hope that the home crowd turns against them. Then we know we are doing well.”
Although Somers will also have to wait and see whether he will be present himself. “We really have to take it day by day. My ankle was still a little swollen this week, but I ice it four times a day. I’m really doing everything I can to be there.”
