RSC Anderlecht brought in a lot of reinforcements last summer. A number of these acquisitions have already proven to be a direct hit, others have not yet been able to make their mark. Luis Vazquez also belongs to the latter category for the time being.
After RSCA decided not to continue the collaboration with Islam Slimani, sporting boss Jesper Fredberg had to look for a new striker last summer. Ultimately, the Dane ended up with his fellow countryman Kasper Dolberg, who was taken over from OGC Nice for a certain amount.
But because Dolberg had to deal with a number of injuries in the recent past and the alternatives for him were fairly limited, Fredberg decided to attract a second striker. The choice fell on Luis Vazquez.
In the shadow of Dolberg
RSCA had been interested in the 22-year-old Argentine for some time, but his file was quite complex. After weeks of negotiations, an agreement was finally reached with his club Boca Juniors. And so Vazquez signed a long-term contract until mid-2028.
For the time being, however, he did not enjoy his first European adventure so much. After all, the Argentinian has to settle for a place in Dolberg’s shadow. He has not yet reached more than two starting places. His counter also stands at only 1 goal and 1 assist.
Called by Mascherano
Nevertheless, striking news emerged from his home country on Thursday. It became known that Vazquez has been selected for the next international matches of the Argentinian promises. Although he has a particularly large talent pool at his disposal, national coach Javier Mascherano decided to call up the bench seat.
Vazquez can therefore continue to dream of a place in the Argentine selection for the Olympic Games. This could pose an additional problem for RSCA. If the striker performs well, he may also be called up for the pre-Olympic tournament. In that case, he would be absent from his club for a few weeks in January.
