Besnik Hasi is again coaching in Belgium seven years after his dismissal from Anderlecht. The Albanian signed a contract with KV Mechelen until the end of the season. Tomasz Radzinski, Hasi’s ex-teammate at Anderlecht, brought both parties together.

“To be clear, I am not Besnik’s real estate agent. That’s Sofian Benkheil. Besnik and I are just very good friends,” said Radzinski. “In recent years I got to know Frank Lagast (CEO of KV Mechelen, ed.) on the golf circuit. After the dismissal of Steven Defour, I brought both parties to the table together. No more. Afterwards things apparently happened very quickly. Oh well, I’m just glad I could help a friend. In two weeks it will be exactly 23 years ago that Besnik sent me deep against Lazio in the Champions League. Do you remember that goal? Well, I’m glad I was finally able to give him something back.”
In recent years, contact between Radzinski and Hasi had faded a bit. “First I lived abroad for years, then Besnik. But we did call each other regularly. Just to ask how things were going. Will he be able to make his mark at KV Mechelen? Besnik is one of the last trainers to become champion with Anderlecht. He then coached top clubs in Poland and Greece. I am sure he is the right man in the right place.”
