Besnik Hasi has been without a club since he was fired from Saudi Al-Ahli in March 2022. He previously also trained Al-Raed, Olympiacos, Legia Warsaw and of course RSC Anderlecht. He led the Purple & White to the title in the 2013-2014 season.
Hasi faces a difficult assignment at KV Mechelen, which is only fourteenth in the league after a disappointing start to the season. The cup elimination against amateur club Knokke last week led to the departure of Steven Defour. It’s up to Hasi to get Malinwa back on track.
KV Mechelen only appointed a new T1. “The club has every confidence in the sporting staff and therefore no further changes will be made there. Fixed values Fred Vanderbiest and Gunther Vanhandenhoven as well as the other members remain on board.”
KV Mechelen will play at home against Charleroi on Saturday. That match comes too early for Hasi. T2 Fred Vanderbiest will be on the sidelines and will also do all the preparation. Besnik Hasi will meet the group of players in the coming days and will take on the role as T1 from Sunday.
Besnik Hasi is already counting on the twelfth man, he announced on the club website. “As a player and as a coach, we always feared playing against KV Mechelen, especially at home. Many supporters who fanatically support their team. I therefore call on all supporters to come to the stadium en masse in yellow and red on Saturday.”
