Thibaut Van Damme was voted the best newcomer of 2023 at the Flandrien Gala. But Karl Vannieuwkerke accidentally revealed his transfer.
Newcomer Thibaut Van Damme (16) won more than ten times this year, including two stages of the Top Competition, he became the final laureate and also won three time trials, including the Belgian title.
For this, Van Damme was rewarded with the Flandrien of the Future prize among the newcomers. It is the third time in a row that a rider from Avia Rudyco Cycling has received the prize. The team therefore delivers quality.

But next year Van Damme will switch to the junior team of the German BORA-hansgrohe. He follows in the footsteps of Cian Uijtdebroeks, who still rides for the German team. Although it was not entirely the intention for the news to be announced already.
“That was actually not allowed to be in the media yet,” said Van Damme. It was presenter Karl Vannieuwkerke who had picked up the news and asked Van Damme about it. But he clearly did not expect the question.
