We all know Johan Boskamp in the Low Countries as a real football animal. The Dutchman is currently married to Lydia, but she was not his first life partner.
Boskamp lost his childhood sweetheart – Jenny – in 2001. 22 years later, he is still not over that loss and probably never will be. He was recently a guest at Football Insidewhere they talked about brand new Ajax coach John van ‘t Schip.
Van ‘t Schip lost his life partner Daniëlle a month ago. Boskamp understands better than anyone how difficult that must be for the Ajax coach: “It’s terrible to lose your wife… Fortunately, he can now focus on Ajax.”
“When he sits at home he only thinks about his wife, I know that feeling,” he says. “Everyone says that it will eventually wear off, but that’s not true. It really doesn’t wear out!”, Boskamp testifies with a lump in his throat.
Everything’s gone to shit
After Jenny’s death, the Dutchman focused on his position as a trainer. He went to work at Al-Wasl: “I went to ‘that sandbox’, but I actually didn’t want to go anymore. Everything was fucked, what are you going to do there?”
“But I had to, because I had already assured five or six boys that they could come along. And they really got me through it. That is what the Ajax players are now doing for Van ‘t Schip. The players will now run a little faster for him!”
