Mario Stroeykens (19) is one of the many standouts at Anderlecht in recent weeks. The young Belgian is also working hard on his statistics and is gradually appearing indispensable in the starting line-up.
Thorgan Hazard, Kasper Dolberg and Anders Dreyer excelled against Cercle Brugge, but Mario Stroeykens has also been doing the same lately. Stroeykens had a few starting places at the beginning of the season, but then disappeared into the team somewhat.
But Stroeykens was always in the starting line-up in the last four games. And he’s clearly working on his stats too. Stroeykens has scored three times in his last four games and also provided one assist. He is doing particularly well with this.
“Scoring is good, especially to contribute to victory and take a step forward every week,” said the young Belgian. Stroeykens was mainly able to take advantage of injuries to other players to be in the starting line-up a lot. First Delaney was out, Leoni was absent against Cercle.
Competitive struggle
But what if everyone is fit again? Will Stroeykens disappear to the bench again? “The trainer makes his choices. It is up to me to seize opportunities when I play. And at the moment I am doing that well by being efficient.”
The contract extension from the end of September until 2026 also created confidence. But Stroeykens would not have been disappointed if he had been on the bench against Cercle. “No, the coach makes choices and I have to accept them. It is important to show what you can do.”
