Lotte Kopecky makes a harsh judgment about words she had with teammate Demi Vollering

It was an image that you would not expect from teammates in the race, especially when we saw someone like Wout van Aert give away a victory to teammate Christophe Laporte.

But among the women in this year’s Strade Bianche, teammates Lotte Kopecky and Demi Vollering did not perform at all as they would have done at Jumbo Visma. There were even very unkind words.

“Yes, but when I look back on it now, I actually think that was a logical reaction from both of us,” says Lotte Kopecky to Het Nieuwsblad. “Both of us didn’t know who had won and what exactly had happened. It would have been very wrong to stand there and hug or something. I’m so happy for you… We just didn’t have that feeling.”

Her judgment is therefore very harsh. “We are friends outside the race, in the race we both want to win. People can write whatever they want about that, but in the same situation – let’s hope it doesn’t happen again – the reaction will be the same again,” Kopecky is very clear.

“I don’t really want to lose, I think. But I’m also not the one who will cheat in, say, a game of Jungle Speed ​​just to win. I do my very best, but mainly because it’s fun to be a bit overly competitive in board games. I think winning is very important in the race. I don’t know if I could make all the sacrifices if I didn’t win.”
