Now that the Red Devils have qualified for next summer’s European Championships in Germany, work is underway on the practice program in the run-up to EURO 2024. The first match has already been determined: England.

On Tuesday, March 26, the Belgians will play against England at Wembley Stadium in London. England are currently fourth in the FIFA rankings, one place ahead of the Red Devils.

National coach Domenico Tedesco is delighted with a strong opponent like England for a match that is the first major test for the European Championship.

“England are a strong team and the type of opponent we need in the build-up to the European Championship. In addition, every football fan dreams of one day being at Wembley. We are really looking forward to it. By playing against strong opponents, we will know better and faster where and how we still have to make progress in order to compete with the big favorites for the title at the European Championship.”

It will be the 36th confrontation between the two countries. Of the past 35 matches, the Red Devils have won only six compared to 23 victories for England. Six times the match ended in a draw.

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the Red Devils defeated the English twice: in the group stage they won 1-0 and in the bronze medal match Belgium won 2-0. Both countries also faced each other in the group stage of Nations League 2020. Belgium won the match in Leuven 2-0 but lost 2-1 at Wembley. Twice in an empty stadium because of corona.
