Fernando Alonso was one of the highlights of the Brazilian Grand Prix today. The Spanish Aston Martin driver was finally allowed to reach the podium again, but he was not given that. Afterwards, Alonso was extremely satisfied with his epic duel with Sergio Perez.
Perez chased Alonso for laps. The Mexican Red Bull Racing driver seemed to be much faster, but he simply couldn’t get by. Alonso defended like a lion and that caused a lot of frustration for Perez. In the closing stages Perez thought he had Alonso, but the Spaniard did not give up. He struck on the last lap and just managed to keep Perez behind him.
Screaming with enthusiasm, he jumped into the arms of his mechanics. After a firm handshake from on-duty interviewer Mark Webber, Alonso explained how his race went: “For me it felt like I was under pressure for thirty laps! When he passed me two laps before the end, I thought the podium wasn’t going to happen.” more was possible. However, he braked too late in Turn 1 and then I wanted to go for it in Turn 4. This is a phenomenal result for the team. We have had a tough few months, in the last two races we fell two outs.”
