A possible injury to Jan Vertonghen was the only blemish on Anderlecht’s victory at Cercle Brugge. Vertonghen himself fears a break.
Captain Jan Vertonghen was taken off shortly before the end due to a triple substitution by Brian Riemer. Strange in itself because it was only the first time in 13 competition games that Vertonghen was called into the side. Moussa N’Diaye came on in his place.
In the 62nd minute, Vertonghen was kicked in the ankle after a duel with Alan Minda. Vertonghen continued to play with a painkiller, but had to leave a few minutes before the end after some grimaces.
After the match it became clear that Vertonghen probably suffered an injury. “I got a kick on my bad left ankle. I hope nothing is broken inside,” said the Anderlecht captain.

Vertonghen was able to lean on his foot, but still limped through the mixed zone to the players bus. At the end of last season, Vertonghen also suffered an injury to his left ankle, but continued to play with it. It remains to be seen whether there is actually any further damage to Vertonghen’s ankle.
Because Anderlecht will travel to KAA Gent next Sunday for another important match. And Domenico Tedesco will also follow it with attention. He will announce his selection on Friday for the matches against Serbia (15/11) and Azerbaijan (19/11).
