Anderlecht Online – Preview: Cercle Brugge

MATCHES No, not Genk – Antwerp or Union – Club Brugge, but Cercle Brugge – Anderlecht is the highlight of this match day. Who would have thought that before the season? But this afternoon at 1.30 pm both teams will play at Jan Breydel with the aim of second place.

Cercle Brugge won its last three league matches, but was eliminated in the Belgian Cup this week by Zulte Waregem on penalties. The club is missing several basic players against Anderlecht: Van der Bruggen is suspended and Somers, Ravych and Leonardo Lopes are injured. De Wilde and Olaigbe, two youth products of Anderlecht, may therefore start.

Anderlecht will soon have to make do without Leoni. He is suffering from a minor injury. This paves the way for Delaney to return to the team after his broken collarbone. For the rest, we have to wait and see whether coach Brian Riemer has a starting place for Amuzu. The winger is fully fit again after several weeks of struggling and with his speed he can be a weapon against Cercle’s high-playing defense. Will Hazard or Stroeykens disappear from the team?
