Ronny Van Eesvelde is a household name in the boxing world. He was the permanent trainer and manager-coach of Ismael Abdoul. Both dated for more than 20 years. With Van Eesvelde, boxing has lost a monument. He was in his last months as a trainer and would stop in January.
“We were still in the dressing room together and were still laughing,” said fellow trainer and Koksijd organizer Johan Vandenhouweele. “He told me that he would make some time for other things such as his family and fishing. And then he suddenly fell over and an hour later Ronny was no longer there. So unreal. Everyone at the meeting was devastated. The people of his Ghent club Golden Gloves were thrilled, just like everyone who cares about the sport of boxing.”
