“We see the child benefit as a partial compensation for the costs of the upbringing. That’s the starting point. If these costs increase due to inflation, then the child benefit must also increase,” says Dalle in the interview. The minister believes that the fact that inflation is now nine percent and child benefit is only rising by one percent is incorrect. And he wants to see that change.

A survey at the end of last school year among 833 parents by the parent umbrella organization of Catholic education shows that one in three parents is concerned about school bills..

“The current system is outdated by reality, so we need to reform it. Additional investment in the growth package is an absolute priority for CD&V. That will cost money, I realize that. We therefore have to take a good look at when we can do something. We will also have to find money elsewhere, because I don’t want us to loose our budgetary discipline.”
