El Kaouakibi has not been seen in the Flemish Parliament for almost two years. The politician sat there for Open Vld until she left the party herself in April last year after scandals related to subsidy fraud. She kept her parliamentary seat and with sick notes she was legally absent all that time and was therefore paid.
But the 3,000 euros net that she received has not been deposited for four months because the tax authorities had seized her wages. The tax authorities can do this if someone has not paid their taxes.

In the meantime, the final claim of the public prosecutor’s office has also been completed, which requests the referral to the council chamber. There it will be decided whether El Kaouakibi will have to answer to the judge. Before that is possible, however, her parliamentary immunity must first be lifted. This must be judged by a committee in the Flemish Parliament.
