There was clearly a fear of heavy rain or wind, but the weather gods were favorable to Bruges’ most beautiful day. The thick lines of people along the route also proved that the procession remains a crowd puller. They were treated to a beautiful and high-quality spectacle thanks to 1,800 participants who sang, played music, danced and acted. “I have been playing Jesus with the cross who falls several times for 15 years… And I do not wear ‘knee pads’, as some people think,” says Bruges resident Francis Gevaert (42).
