In the night from Saturday to Sunday, another fire bomb was thrown at a house on Albert Renierplein in Aarschot. The same house was also targeted last weekend. What’s going on in the quiet residential area?

“This morning at 3.35 am another bomb went off,” says a local resident. “Local residents followed the perpetrators, but fled in a car without license plates. The residents of the house have not been home since the previous attack,” says local resident K. DOVO, the police, fire brigade and laboratory arrived on the scene for the first findings. “We have no idea why they need that house, but I assume the residents are aware.”

The fire bomb shattered the glass on the front door, and the facade and front garden were burned. An explosive containing an accelerant was used again. “We no longer feel safe,” say other local residents. “It is not normal what is happening here now. A lot of children live here, so we are now starting to worry about safety. It’s hard for an adult to understand, let alone for children. And what will happen next? We know nothing, only that an investigation is underway.”

Local residents are afraid that another fire bomb will be thrown. “Is this going to happen every weekend now? We no longer dare to leave our children outside. We hardly dare to go outside in the evening,” says local resident Rita.

Not the first time

On the night of Saturday April 20 to Sunday April 21, a fire bomb was also thrown at the same house at around 5:30 am. The house was damaged and the suspects subsequently fled. “Our message from the city is already very clear: these types of incidents are unacceptable and do not belong here,” Mayor Bert Van der Auwera (Open Vld) said at the time. “The security services and the public prosecutor’s office can count on our full support. We are following it closely, but now it is first up to the competent authorities.”

The parquet

The public prosecutor’s office confirms that the house was damaged by a fire bomb. The damage is greater this time, but again no injuries were reported. Two people would live in the house. The circumstances of the incident are being further investigated. The police are still busy investigating the neighborhood today. The Federal Judicial Police (FGP) continues the investigation under the leadership of the Leuven public prosecutor’s office.
