Fem van Empel extends cyclo-cross world title after true demonstration, Laura Verdonschot finishes fifth | Sport

In Tabor, Czech Republic, Fem van Empel (21) was unmatched. The Dutchwoman was in the lead from start to finish. For the Visma-Lease a Bike rider, it is her second world title in the field. Lucinda Brand (34) and Puck Pieterse (21) were allowed on stage. Our compatriot Laura Verdonschot (27) came in a very good fifth.

LOOK. Fem van Empel: “It feels very good”

The women’s World Cup was completed after just 100 seconds. An unleashed Van Empel immediately found a gap and systematically extended her lead. The battle for second place was slightly more exciting. Pieterse initially seemed too strong for Lucinda Brand, but the former world champion fought back and knocked Pieterse loose. Brand reaches the podium at the World Championships for the seventh year in a row.

Laura Verdonschot rode a strong race and took fifth place in the final lap. Sanne Cant did not appear in the piece and had to be satisfied with a fourteenth place. Marion Norbert Riberolle (16th) and Alicia Franck (20th) also did not play a significant role.
