The Fluvia Emergency Zone already received 80 calls for flooding on Tuesday.
The water is in South West Flanders after the persistent rain of the past few days. The streams and canals cannot absorb much more water, fields and fields are flooded, buffer basins are quickly filling up. “We already received around 80 calls today regarding flooding. Say about five to six calls per fire station,” says the spokesperson for the emergency response zone. “But at the moment all pumping works have been completed.”
For example, the Mosschaardstraat in Waregem and the connected Knokstraat in Vichte were flooded again due to heavy rainfall. The route is often used as a shortcut for sewerage and road works between Waregem and Vichte. The road was also flooded in September.
The weather forecast remains gloomy with lots of rain this afternoon. There is therefore a good chance that the various fire stations in the region still have a lot of pumping work to do.
