Nearly 1.4 million corona vaccines have already been administered in Flanders this autumn vaccination campaign. This is what Flemish Minister of Welfare, Public Health and Family Hilde Crevits (CD&V) says. 61 percent of people over 65 have now been vaccinated. In residential care centers this concerns 91.2 percent of the residents.
In total, more than 2.8 million corona vaccines are available for Flanders for the autumn vaccination campaign 2023. This vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 65 or older, people with weakened resistance or with certain health conditions, pregnant women and staff in the healthcare sector. These are the so-called priority groups.
Of the 2.8 million available vaccines, half have already been administered. General practitioners were responsible for 62 percent of the vaccinations, pharmacists for 25 percent. The other vaccines have been placed in residential care centers, hospitals and other institutions. In residential care centers, 75,979 residents were vaccinated, good for 91.2 percent.
Most vaccines were administered in Antwerp (390,124), followed by East Flanders (321,021), West Flanders (268,985), Flemish Brabant (239,638) and Limburg (169,605).
“In Flanders we can be satisfied with the people who have been vaccinated. The figures are much higher than in other parts of the country. We also note that Flemish people find it easy to go to the GP or pharmacist for a vaccine,” says Minister Crevits. She makes an additional appeal to people to get vaccinated, “that is still possible”.
