Alisha Lehmann hosted Spain in the Nations League with Switzerland on Tuesday. The world champion was clearly too big for Lehmann and co and won 1-7. The Swiss women remain behind in the group with 0 out of 12.
Lehmann posted some images from the competition on her popular Instagram page with the words “never give up”. Well-intentioned, but the Swiss are receiving criticism in the comments. The reason? The makeup she wore, as usual, during the match.
“All that makeup to lose 1-7,” one user responds scornfully. You can also read: “Don’t you ever feel stupid as the only woman who wears makeup to exercise?” and “Less paint and more goals, please.”
Lehmann is by far the most popular football player in the world, but that also means that she is often accused on social media. Earlier this summer she said: “I’m often told: ‘Women can’t play football, they should stay in the kitchen.’ Do you know what I think? Of course it’s not nice to hear because we train hard every day, but it gives me strength.”
