This is the story of a journey – a heartbreaking one, despite its cheerfulness. “Super Mario Land was Lowie’s big dream,” says Ellen Smolders (37). Her son Lowie (5) has cancer and will never recover from it. After the fateful news, she and her husband decided that they would do everything they could to give Lowie the best months of his life. And so the four of them left for Hollywood – dad Sven (39) and sister Emilou (8) of course also came along. “We were prepared on paper, but not in our heads.”
