In Kiev bikinis and swimming shorts are brought out, but appearances can be deceiving

The war is raging in the east and south, but summer scenes set the tone in the capital Kiev. Cafes and restaurants are open. Beaches and hiking trails fill with families and friends, seemingly carefree enjoying the tropical temperature.

The war seems to have disappeared from the Ukrainian capital. Last weekend residents flocked to the banks of the Dnieper to enjoy some early summer sunshine. The photos show a relaxed atmosphere, but appearances are deceiving. Many young people are preparing for the war, they are now resting for a while or they expect to be called up to fight soon. (agg)
