The facts took place on Friday evening near the catering business Villa Gerard op ‘t Zand in Bruges. The 50-year-old victim was taking a walk with his partner and their dog at the time. At the height of a catering business, it came to an altercation with some young people. There was some pulling and pushing, but then it all went wrong.
Accidental fall
“What started with a banal exchange of words ended in a blow that one of the young people delivered to the victim. It was not really a real fight,” says Lien Depoorter, spokesman for the Bruges police.
The victim fell on his head to the ground. “An unfortunate fall, but the man was taken to hospital in critical condition.” The man received first aid at the scene and was also operated on in the meantime. Among other things, blood clots would have been found in his head. “He is still in mortal danger,” said Depoorter.
Taken in for questioning
The minor suspect who dealt the blow was taken to the police station for questioning. He was accompanied by two friends. The three would not be known to the police for previous offenses. It is not yet clear what will happen to the aggressor.
