At a sold-out Wembley in London, the American band Foo Fighters gave their first concert since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. The concert was a tribute to the drummer, who passed away last March at the age of 50.

In addition to a performance by Foo Fighters, other well-known artists also played Hawkins’ favorite songs. Among them are big names like Queen and AC/DC. Liam Gallagher opened the concert and as a surprise, Paul McCartney performed the Beatles song Helter Skelter.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl’s voice faltered when he played the song Times Like These sang. He had to pull himself together several times and struggled to hold back his tears, the BBC writes.

Drum solo son

Earlier in the evening, he described Hawkins as his “beloved friend, bandmate and brother. No one but him could make you laugh, dance or sing better. And for anyone who admired him from afar, I’m sure you thought the same about him.” So sing, dance, laugh, cry and scream and make noise so he can hear us.”

At the number My Hero Hawkins’ 16-year-old son Shane took his place behind his father’s drums. He closed that song with an intense drum solo.

The concert in London was the first of two concerts in memory of the drummer. His wife and the other band members of Foo Fighters organized the series. Proceeds will go to two charities chosen by Hawkins’ next of kin. The second concert will be held in Los Angeles.

Death in Colombian hotel

The drummer was a prominent member of the Foo Fighters alongside lead singer Dave Grohl. The band was formed in 1995. He joined the band in 1997 after the previous drummer left after an argument. Hawkins previously played in Alanis Morissette’s band.

An official cause of death has never been released. However, traces of drugs and medicines were found in his body. It is not yet known whether these substances led to his death.
