After the drama The Father from 2020, Anthony Hopkins, who won an Oscar for his role as a man with dementia, is now again joining forces with director Florian Zeller. However, despite the similar title, The Son has nothing to do with their earlier film. Watch the short first trailer below.
A few years after his parents’ divorce, 17-year-old Nicholas feels he should no longer live with his mother (Laura Dern). He moves in with his father Peter (Hugh Jackman) and his new partner Beth (Vanessa Kirby). Despite a new baby on the way and a dream job ahead, Peter does his best to take care of Nicholas as his own father (Hopkins) should have done before. But by looking at mistakes from the past, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain the connection with Nicolas in the present.
The rest of the cast includes Zen McGrath and Hugh Quarshie, among others. The screenplay was written by Christopher Hampton and director Zeller, based on his own play.
The Sono will run from November 11 in the United States. Nothing is known about a Dutch release at the moment.
