Last year, Netflix released their most ambitious project yet: The Gray Man. Although critics were not fans of the film, it was a major audience favorite. The boss of films at Netflix is now releasing more information about the announced sequel.
The Gray Man is a spy thriller from directors Joe and Anthony Russo, in which the CIA’s top special agent, known as Sierra Six (Ryan Gosling), turns against his own organization and is subsequently hunted by a private assassin organization led by the psychopathic Lloyd, played by Chris Evans.
Focus of the sequel
With a huge budget of 200 million dollars, the directors of the last two Avengers movies and major movie stars Gosling and Evans had turned Netflix on The Gray Man as their new, successful film series. Logically, new parts were immediately announced, both a sequel and a prequel.
This week, the head of Netflix Film, Scott Stuber, spoke about the sequel, and said that he is very pleased with lead actor Ryan Gosling. “When I look at what he is doing now, I don’t know if there is a better actor in terms of acting ability and what he achieves with it”, said Stuber. According to him, the focus for the sequel is on Gosling’s character and how his story can be further expanded.
Production status
Both lead actor Gosling and directors Joe and Anthony Russo are expected to return for the sequel. The directors indicated earlier this year that they were in the middle of the writing process for the film, which unfortunately means that it will take some time before the film is completely finished and appears on Netflix. For Gosling fans who can’t wait that long, another film starring him will be released soon, called The Fall Guy.
