Following the critical and commercial success of both Hereditary as Midsommardirector Ari Aster noticed earlier this year that three times is not a charm when his bizarre drama film Beau is Afraid flopped.
Beau if Afraid received only mediocre reviews and grossed a disastrous $11 million worldwide against a budget of $35 million. The film was therefore three times as expensive as his previous two films.
New chance
However, Aster does not give up. His next movie Eddingtonwhich is being called a ‘darkly comedic western noir’ will be filmed soon.
Aster and Joaquin Phoenix, who after Beau if Afraid just wants to work with Aster again, were recently spotted in New Mexico, where they are looking for locations to shoot the film.
Bizarre story
Now a plot description of the film has also appeared online via World of Reel. The story is said to take place during the corona pandemic:
“Eddington is about a couple (Lindsay and Marc) who travel through New Mexico to get to Los Angeles. However, they get stuck in the village of Eddington due to fuel shortages. Lindsay and Marc try to find help there and seem to get it. from the apparently friendly residents. But when night comes, this reception quickly turns into a real nightmare.”
Pascal and Phoenix
It was previously rumored that Pedro Pascal will play Phoenix’s character’s partner. It is unknown whether Pascal accepted this role.
Filming was originally intended to begin in the summer or fall of 2023, but due to the actors’ strike, this will likely not be until sometime in 2024.
