Antwerp buys the remaining part (1.2 ha) of the Ferrarisbos in Wilrijk from ING Belgium. The creation of an ecological water buffer on undeveloped land (0.9 ha) that was also purchased makes an important contribution to robust water management in the Ter Beke industrial area in Wilrijk. Earlier this year, Antwerp already bought part (3.5 ha) of the Ferrarisbos from the transport company H.Essers. The purchase ensures that approximately 5 ha of forest is now definitively protected and can be preserved as a forest area. It will be accessible to everyone. The area was originally colored as an industrial area.

The purchase of the Ferrarisbos in combination with the purchase of a vacant lot next to it ensures that the city can also create an ecological connection with an infiltration buffer basin between the Ferrarisbos and the Klaverblad castle estate to the west. The spatial implementation plan (rup) Ter Beke Zuid is currently being drawn up and wants to facilitate the necessary green connections and protect the forest. The project area was therefore widened in a northerly direction.

The Ter Beke industrial area in Wilrijk is a paved area with a limited volume of water buffering. This regularly causes flooding during heavy rain. The creation of an ecological water buffer – in collaboration with the experts from water-link and Aquafin – fits in with the realization of a robust water management for this area. All these interventions ensure that Ter Beke remains an attractive business park and at the same time becomes future-proof, while preserving the valuable greenery present.
