A young cyclist (13) was hit by a car in Molenstede around 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

When the police services of police zone Demerdal arrived, the emergency services were already on site for the victim, a 13-year-old girl. She had ended up in the canal as a result of the collision and was in mortal danger for a moment. The victim was immediately transferred to UZ Leuven Gasthuisberg. In the meantime, the victim is said to be out of danger.
The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man from Herselt, was subjected to a breath and saliva test. The saliva test showed positive for THC, a substance found in cannabis. The public prosecutor appointed a law doctor and traffic expert. According to the preliminary findings of the traffic expert, there was no technical defect in the vehicle, the circumstances are still under investigation.
The driver was questioned. He admitted to using THC. His driver’s license was immediately revoked for a period of 15 days.
