Telenet introduces the very first channel in Belgium with only women’s sports

Telenet launches from September 23 the brand new international channel W-Sport. It is the very first channel in our country that only broadcasts women’s sports. The program includes live coverage of the female Premier League and four other European football competitions, basketball, triathlon, horse riding and boxing, among others. All Telenet TV customers can tune in to the channel for free.

W-Sport’s offer pays a lot of attention to football, including the Premier League for women and the Italian, German and Dutch women’s competitions. In addition, the channel has the rights to the PAC12 basketball tournament, the Superleague triathlon, the Global Champions Tour in equestrianism and the IBA World Boxing Championships. In addition to all the live coverage, documentaries and shows about women’s sports are also on the program, including about Simone Biles, Venus Williams and Naomi Osaka.

All Telenet TV customers will be able to tune in to W-Sport for free via channel 219 in Flanders and channel 624 in Brussels and Wallonia. Telenet ensures a ‘plug & play’ of W-Sport. This means that the original English commentary is preserved. In time (in the course of 2023), W-Sport would also provide partial Dutch subtitles, and possibly also add Belgian competitions to their offer.

“With the integration of W-Sport in our offer, we are putting women’s sport in the spotlight again and we are responding to its increasing popularity in our country. It fits in with Telenet’s philosophy to encourage more girls and women to play sports. For example, we organized the Soccer Sisters Cup, the first street football tournament in Flanders for girls, and in recent years we have hosted the online fiction series PANNA by SBS”, says Stefaan Kestens, responsible for Play Sports.
