Antwerp

Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a nice conversation. Because everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Valery Empeda (65).

“I am in Belgium for the first time. My husband and I live near Melbourne, in the land of the koalas. He works from Australia for a Belgian company and is now here for a few days, and I was allowed to come along. While he is at his desk, I take my time to explore the city.”

“And I like that very much. Antwerp is a beautiful city. I can’t wait to see the old buildings. Over the past few days I have discovered one showpiece after another. Every time I passed a building, I thought it couldn’t get any more beautiful, until I came across the next one. It’s really unbelievable here.”

“Not to mention the atmosphere. Everywhere you go people are super helpful and friendly. This also applies in the restaurants, where you are served delicious meals. On the terraces, me and my husband felt 18 again. Watching life happen from there, there is nothing more beautiful than that.”

“Unfortunately, our time in Belgium is almost over. After Bruges and Antwerp we now go to Brussels for a few days, and then we take the kite home. It will be a long trip, but it was totally worth it. We’ll be back for sure. Not only to Flanders, because we also want to discover Wallonia. In any case, we will already sell Belgium as well as possible in Australia. See you soon!” (lava)
