During a check at the Paalse Plas in Beringen, seven people were caught night fishing. The violators each receive a GAS fine for their violation of the police regulations.

“The phenomenon of night fishing is a major problem at our Paalse Plas,” explains Recreatie Jessie De Weyer. “Together with the domain responsible, we therefore try to conduct targeted checks to tackle violators.” According to the current police regulations, the fishing pond is only open from 6 am to 10 pm in the months of April to October. In addition, every angler must be in possession of a Flemish fishing permit and a municipal fishing license issued by the city council.

“By banning night fishing, we avoid that fish is taken and that people camp on the fishing spots for long periods. Together with our own checks, we also ask the local police to pass regularly. In addition, we are planning a consultation with our interested fishing license holders in the autumn to see how we can tackle the problem even better,” concludes Alderman De Weyer.
