Despite the progress of the years, the commemoration of the bombing is increasingly resonating in Mortsel. To commemorate the eightieth anniversary, many activities will be organized in 2023.

A poignant commemorative moment will take place on April 5 next year. On the Stadsplein, 936 volunteers will make the number of fatalities of the bombing visible in a symbolic way. Meanwhile, Tom Lanoye is reading from his latest novel The Turntable a passage for about the bombing.

In order to get the right number of volunteers, the city and the non-profit organization are appealing to everyone, young or old, to sign up. Anyone who does this must be present on the Stadsplein on April 5 from 2.45 pm to 3.45 pm and become the godfather or godmother of one of 936 victims. You can register online or after a visit to the city reception.
