The accident happened around 9:45 a.m. A cyclist followed the Koekuitstraat. Just then, a tractor with a trailer full of corn pulled up.

The Koekuitstraat is very narrow, so crossing each other is not obvious. The moment the agricultural vehicle passed the cyclist, the man fell and ended up under the wheels of the trailer. “The driver saw the cyclist fall in his rear-view mirror,” said a local resident.

It is unclear whether the man was still cycling at the time of the fall or was already standing still along the road. The cyclist, a man born in 1939, died instantly. Emergency services rushed to the spot, but all help came too late. The street was immediately closed to traffic. An expert from the public prosecutor’s office will be on site to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident. So far, no results have been released from that investigation.
