It was written in the stars: the first post-corona edition of the Brassskade Dorpsdag became one to say to you. Flemish Prime Minister and title-holding mayor Jan Jambon had dressed up for the occasion in the style of 150 years ago.

On Sunday afternoon, the college of the mayor and aldermen gathered in the town hall. They did this in the style of 150 years ago. The theme of this 43rd edition of Village Day was therefore “150 years of Brasschaat Castle”. Prime Minister Jan Jambon also happily dressed up in a historic outfit with a top hat and all. The company paraded across the Bredabaan like castle residents in the midst of the people.

“In 2019 we organized our Village Day to celebrate 75 years of liberation after World War II. Then corona broke out and now we could pick up the thread again. We do this in the style of 150 years ago”, explains alderman for festivities Carla Pantens (N-VA).

The Bredabaan was already quite full around 2 pm. Two hours later it was completely packed. The fair at the Armand Reusensplein was doing great business. A few young local DJs got the chance to show their skills on the triangular meadow.

“We really have the impression that people were all waiting for this opportunity to meet again. We hope to extend this line to the N8 of Brasschaat this Tuesday, September 6,” said alderman Carla Pantens. (jbr)
