Police were called on Monday evening after witnesses heard several gunshots in the park. When police arrived, they found a man on the ground with a head injury. The victim was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced brain dead.

The public prosecutor immediately opened an investigation and had the technical investigation of the federal police come to the scene for a trace investigation and also appointed a law doctor. Shortly after the facts, a 34-year-old man was arrested. The man was arrested by the investigating judge for attempted murder and is currently in prison.

The Brussels prosecutor’s office will not comment on the case, but a source close to the investigation reports that the suspect is the victim’s brother. The duo would have made some sort of murder-suicide pact, but after the suspect shot his brother, he was unable to take his own life.
