The Antwerp candy store The Munchies, in consultation with the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC), has decided to remove and recall the product ‘Jellysnack Assorted Flavors’ from the Jellysnack brand of the same name. The confectionery contains the unauthorized additive E407, which in this case makes the product more solid and can cause suffocation in smaller children.

According to the manager of the store in Sint-Katelijnevest, the decision comes after an inspection by the FASFC. The FASFC points out that the additive in itself is not dangerous. “But in some foods, such as in this candy, it can become more solid, making it difficult, especially for smaller children, to chew and swallow,” explains Liesbeth Van de Voorde of the FASFC. Therefore, there is a possible choking hazard.

The Munchies, a candy store with a large American candy range, asks customers not to consume the product and to return it to the point of sale.

It concerns the ‘Jellysnack Assorted Flavors’ with a minimum best before date until August 7, 2023 with lot number 070821149 or with the best before date October 7, 2023 with lot number 071021-189, sold since the beginning of 2022. These are candy bags of 300 grams (bag of 20 pieces). ).
