Resolve nv and Monta nv submitted an application last year for the expansion of the Lembeek-North industrial zone. The applicants want to realize several new buildings along Noorderstraat. The city refused that application, but the deputation of the province of Flemish Brabant decided otherwise. A permit was issued on July 7, 2022. The city council is now appealing this decision.

Many companies are currently located in the Lembeek-North industrial zone. In 2021 an application was submitted for a postal parcel company. The applicants also want to realize four multi-company buildings, a sorting hall and an open parking building in Noorderstraat. “That is a great opportunity for additional employment, but given the location of this zone, the project will entail an excessive increase in traffic,” the city said.

Too big impact

The city council fears that an expansion of the industrial zone of this size will have too much of an impact on the quality of life and accessibility of the city. That is why the city is appealing the decision of the deputation to the Council for Permit Disputes.
