A 54-year-old man died on Monday evening in an industrial accident in a hangar in the Duwijckstraat in Lier. The man was working with a forklift truck, but climbed onto a platform when one of the pallets probably got stuck. He fell.
The accident happened around 9 p.m. Monday evening. The man in his fifties was working in the warehouse with a forklift truck in a separate part of the warehouse. He was probably removing or moving pallets there. “Something went wrong with that action. A pallet may have gotten stuck and that’s why he climbed up to see what was going on. More than likely, the victim made a mistake and fell,” explains public prosecutor Lieselotte Claessens.
The victim is said to have fallen about 3.5 meters. The emergency services arrived on the scene, but all help came too late for the victim. The police set up a perimeter at the scene.
The public prosecutor’s office sent a medical examiner and the Supervision of Welfare at Work service to the scene to investigate the correct circumstances of the industrial accident. (tdk)
