No, it’s not an April Fool’s joke. The city deliberately inaugurated the artistic installations on “the happiest day of the year” to highlight the installations “full of color and joy”.

The ducks are 1.60 meters to 2.50 meters in size and are made of mineral fibers illuminated by solar lamps. They will adorn the ponds opposite St. Catherine’s Church until September 21. A large ‘BXL’ logo with water lilies also embellishes the other pond during the summer.

In addition, every first Sunday of the month from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the city organizes family activities such as children’s workshops, puzzle and duck fishing, remote-controlled boats, on-board storytelling, pedal boats for children.

This project is part of the effort to improve the shopping streets while respecting the tranquility of local residents, explains Fabian Maingain, Alderman for Economic Affairs of the City of Brussels. “It’s a great opportunity to discover this historic city center landmark in a fun way, with friends or family, while taking advantage of the area’s hotels, restaurants and shops.”
