In honor of its 65th anniversary, the youth book month, the end of winter, the beginning of spring, World Happiness Day, … the Schoten Cultural Center organized a Big Wild Coloring Party. It was directed by Charlotte Dumortier, the illustrator who brightens up the CC’s publications this season.

Exactly 65 years ago, the Cultural Center was baptized in Schoten Castle. The fact that the CC is still in excellent health today was demonstrated during the Easter weekend in De Kaekelaar, the largest hall of the CC for 25 years.

Veerle Anthonis, who has been the director of the cultural center for quite some time now, had asked her in-house illustrator Charlotte Dumortier, also known for her playful drawings in the New York Times, Humo and for the MAS, among others, to organize an interactive children’s party together with other graphic artists. to put legs. This involved workshops, lots of coloring inside and outside the lines, opening a well-filled piñata and cutting and eating an entire banquet of anniversary cakes.

Castle concerts

The new Culture Alderman Christof Victor (N-VA) enjoyed the event and afterwards handed out prizes to those who had made the most beautiful drawings. “Anyone who attended this party was presented with proof that investing in local culture has a connecting effect,” says Victor.

“Our own grandchildren were also present and thoroughly enjoyed the festival of colours,” Luc Faes, chairman of the CC management council, is full of praise for the formula.

“The celebration doesn’t stop here. We will continue in September with a historical overview of 65 years of the cultural center in the foyer of De Kaekelaar, linked to the first performance of the new season. On Sunday, September 29, Ensemble 65, composed for the occasion, will give an aperitif concert in the castle. A reference to the long tradition of castle concerts, which dates back to the 1960s. There will also be a retrospective exhibition with posters, programs, old photos and more relics of the historic castle concerts.”
