The Antwerp police pursued a drunk driver in Deurne on Wednesday night. The man had been caught driving under the influence before.

In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, a drunk driver got out of his car near the Bosuil Stadium. “An intervention patrol was sent to the scene,” says police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns. “During an inspection near Bisschoppenhoflaan, the inspectors noticed the vehicle.”

The police wanted to pull the car over, but the driver ignored the order and drove away from the police. In the Tweemontstraat the car was involved in two collisions, each of which damaged a parked car. On Belcrownlaan the vehicle reached a speed of more than 140 km/hour before crashing near Santvoortbeeklaan, causing heavy damage.

The driver fled the scene but was quickly caught by the intervention team. “A check revealed that the man was already known to the police for driving under the influence. He also now gave a positive breath test. In addition, the man had been warned four times for a driving ban,” says Bruyns.
