A small plane crashed into a mobile home park in Florida, in the southeastern United States, on Thursday evening. There are several victims, state authorities report.

“I can confirm that there are multiple fatalities, both in the unit and in the mobile homes,” said Fire Chief Scott Ehlers. It is not clear exactly how many victims are involved. Authorities also do not yet know how many occupants the plane had.

The accident occurred in Clearwater, near the city of Tampa. Around 7 p.m. (1 a.m. Belgian time), a neighboring plane received a report about an aircraft in trouble, Ehlers explains.

Firefighters rushed to the Bayside Waters park and found three mobile homes on fire. A fourth home was destroyed by the crashed plane. The residents of the three mobile homes on fire were able to escape.

The aircraft, a Beechcraft Bonanza V35 type, is said to have crashed after the pilot reported engine problems, the American aviation authority FAA reports.
