A number of Red Devils still appear to be ready for a transfer on Deadline Day. For example, Orel Mangala will take his medical tests at Olympique Lyon on Thursday morning, but there is also another surprising deal in the making. Matz Sels seems to be on his way to the Premier League.

The 31-year-old has been working at Strasbourg since the summer of 2018, where he was the regular number one under the bar for 5.5 years. Last year his status with the Red Devils also increased due to the retirement of Simon Mignolet and the serious injury of Thibaut Courtois. Because Koen Casteels was also injured a few times, he now has six caps.

Sels on his way to Nottingham Forest

Now a new step in his career follows, because it seems that Sels is on his way to the Premier League. According to Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest have made an offer of 6 to 7 million euros for the goalkeeper. The number sixteen in the rankings had been looking for a goalkeeper for some time because Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos could not convince in recent months.

This included the name of Kasper Schmeichel (Anderlecht), but now Forest seems to be going for Sels. Also the usually very reliable David Ornstein from The Athletic confirms the negotiations. He states that other avenues are being explored, but that Sels is Forest’s priority.

Sels wants to go to the Premier League himself

However, despite the offer, it has not yet been possible to reach an agreement with Strasbourg. Sels himself would like to take the step and already have a personal agreement in his pocket. Everything is said to be ready so that he can fly to England for his medical examination as soon as the clubs are out.

If the transfer happens, Sels could take revenge in England. After all, he had already worked there at Newcastle United, which was still playing in the Championship at the time. Sels was under contract with the Magpies between 2016 and 2018, but that was not a success. He lost his starting place after a handful of games and was loaned out to Anderlecht in his second season.
