As announced, farmers are also taking action in Ghent today. Early this morning, the first farmers arrived at the Bijloke site via Rooigemlaan to demonstrate. Around 11 o’clock they went to the turbo roundabout. Minister of Agriculture Jo Brouns (CD&V) will also travel to Ghent today to give a speech.

In Ghent there was already a farmers’ protest on Wednesday evening at the turbo roundabout in the north of the city. On Thursday, the actions would concentrate on the Bijloke site, a historic building where a European symposium is being held.
From 6 o’clock this morning, convoys of tractors left Oudenaarde, Lokeren, Wetteren and Lovendegem (Lievegem). The first farmers arrived at the Bijloke site around half past eight. Everything was provided for the action: snacks were available and a music system was ready. Minister of Agriculture Jo Brouns (CD&V) came to give a speech at the demonstration today.
Cattle farmer Everaert from Deinze is 80 years old and also came to demonstrate this morning to support the youth. “It cannot continue like this with the current regulations,” he said. “They are destroying the industry.”
Around 11 am the farmers moved to the turbo roundabout. The passage is blocked in all directions. Farmers are also protesting in Zelzate. There the roundabout at ArcelorMittal is blocked.
