With Islam Slimani, a big name is (perhaps) returning to the Jupiler Pro League. KV Mechelen managed to attract the Algerian attacker. At RSC Anderlecht, Brian Riemer was not surprised that Slimani is close to a transfer to the Maneblussers.

Slimani to KV Mechelen

“We are getting someone who knows what it is like to make war at the front. He also has a nose for goals and can keep track of a ball. These are qualities that we have been missing lately,” Besnik Hasi said about Slimani to Gazet from Antwerp.

Riemer praised Slimani. “I’m happy for him if he signs. I know he wanted to return to Belgium. Hopefully he can have a lot of success there, even if I hope he doesn’t score against us,” the coach laughed.

Riemer not surprised

A tough match awaits Anderlecht against KVM. “We will do everything we can to win against KV Mechelen. They have already shown themselves against the top clubs and it is a very difficult team to fight. That’s the next hurdle for us. We are currently experiencing some injuries. We have to take the team to a higher level in the next 7-8 matches.”

Slimani had a good period at Anderlecht. He scored 9 goals and 1 assist in 16 games. He found no agreement with RSCA regarding a new contract. He subsequently signed for Brazilian club Coritiba, where he scored 3 times and provided 2 assists in 11 matches.

Can he show himself again at KVM in the Jupiler Pro League?
