Lighten up your weekend? You can do this during the free light festivals in Ghent and Bergen. Another unmissable hotspot along the way: the chic new cocktail bar Scène in Brussels.
In the darkest and coldest months of the year, two free light festivals lure us out of our rooms. In Mons you can go to the first Walloon light festival this and next weekend, on January 27 and 28 and on February 3 and 4. You can admire 26 installations along a three-kilometer long trail.
The Ghent light festival will be in its sixth edition next weekend. The 32 works of art are located along a longer route (seven kilometers) to spread out the crowds.
Brussels has a hotspot richer. The owners open the chic cocktail bar Scène above the restaurant Le Conteur. On the menu: about fifteen cocktails and mocktails, including ‘Belgian sour’ (with bourbon, rum, brown beer syrup, lemon juice and egg white). But also ‘made in Israel’ (with arrack, elderflower liqueur, cucumber and celery bitters). There is also a limited menu with bar snacks, starters and main courses, such as yellowfin tuna tartare, blinis with kingfish sashimi and Dierendonck lamb.
