The images that circulated on social media last weekend about the abuse of a pony at the Breugelhoeve M&M riding school in Peer have prompted certain people to make threats against the teacher in the video. In consultation with the Limburg public prosecutor’s office, the Kempenland police zone drew up a report, after which an investigation was started.
“On Monday it emerged that the images of these facts, which were shared on numerous forums, have not only led to outrage, but also to the expression of concrete and serious threats, via social media, but also directly to the person who images can be seen. Given the seriousness of these threats, an investigation was launched into possible violations of the law on electronic communications,” said press magistrate Bruno Coppin of the Limburg public prosecutor’s office.

The footage showed a teacher hitting a pony hard with a whip several times. He also started riding the pony himself. “Following possible facts of animal abuse in Peer, the Environment Department, animal welfare department and the Kempenland police zone drew up several reports that have now been transferred to the Limburg public prosecutor’s office. The investigation into possible violations of animal welfare legislation will continue under the leadership of the animal welfare reference magistrate,” Coppin explains.
The city of Peer announced on Monday that the procedure had been initiated to terminate the concession agreement with the riding school involved.
