In Brussels it is now possible to have a vehicle with a combustion engine converted into an electric model. Minister of Mobility Elke Van den Brandt (Green) announced this on Monday.
According to the minister, this new option contributes to the climate transition. This is an intervention that can be applied to any type of vehicle and offers a sustainable alternative to the purchase of a new electric vehicle. It is also a cost-saving solution for both private individuals and companies.
The Brussels government recently established the definitive framework. The regulations have been drawn up in collaboration with industry and with the country’s other policy levels, including the federal government.
Converting a vehicle has been possible until now, but registration and homologation – the determination that the vehicle meets the requirements – of renovated vehicles have been an obstacle. Clear and simplified procedures have now been established to allow these vehicles to use public roads without any problems.
Installers can now offer their services to interested private individuals and companies.
